Elías Querejeta was born on October 27, 1934 in Hernani, Guipúzcoa, País Vasco, Spain as Elías Querejeta Gárate. He was married to the costume designer Maiki Marín and his daughter is the director/ writer Gracia Querejeta. He died on June 9, 2013 in Madrid, Spain.
