For all of the apparent naturalness on screen, Guediguian's grim vision comes off as far too calculated.
Overview
A dark tale of working-class life in Marseilles, a city in crisis. Interesting characters include a hard-bitten but compassionate fish market worker with a drug addicted daughter and a moody bartender with a shocking secret life.

Critics on Rotten Tomatoes
Top critics, in their words
It's a strong viewing experience but definitely worth the effort.
It's a pitiless film, uncompromising in what it shows us.
Always, one gets the sense that this film is coming from some place real, and terrible.
...the film's characters are familiar, real-life people, whose sadness reaches out from the screen.
