Overview
Fiery piano virtuoso Nikolai Lugansky makes his anticipated return to the Verbier Festival with a program of high Romantic emotions! After a selection of Mendelssohn's supremely lyrical Songs without Words, Lugansky performs Chopin's Nocturne in D-flat, Op. 27, No. 2 - perhaps the dreamiest and most moonlit of them all — and swooning, stormy Ballade No. 4, then moves on to a second half devoted to Wagner, all selections from his 2024 album named one of the best of the year by Gramophone. Formidable transcriptions of scenes from Götterdämmerung (by Lugansky himself) and of the immortal Liebestod from Tristan und Isolde (by Liszt).
