Top Critics Reviews

fresh:
"Above and Beyond" is a straightforward, rah-rah documentary that shines a light on a group of World War II pilots who were recruited to essentially create the Israeli air force during the Palestine War in 1948.
– Randy Cordova,
Arizona Republic,
12 Mar 2015
fresh:
Though naggingly simplistic in its historical scope, the film offers a fascinating chronicle of the 1948 Arab-Israeli war through the eyes of a daring group of men.
– Sheri Linden,
Los Angeles Times,
5 Feb 2015
rotten:
The film veers toward oversimplified selectivity, too intent on its feel-good, back-patting agenda.
– Ronnie Scheib,
Variety,
31 Jan 2015
fresh:
The film is best appreciated as a straightforward testimonial: old war buddies' hurrah against anti-Semitism.
– Ben Kenigsberg,
New York Times,
29 Jan 2015
fresh:
Though somewhat marred by cheesy docudrama re-enactments, the film (produced by Steven Spielberg's sister Nancy) is nutty, dramatic, surprising and above all inspiring.
– Kyle Smith,
New York Post,
28 Jan 2015
