Jasun Hicks was born in Pomona, California. Hicks spent most of his youth in Pomona and graduated from Chaffey High School in Ontario, California. Hicks modeled as a child for fashion runway shows and events at the California School for the Deaf, Riverside (CSDR). Hicks developed an interest in the dramatic arts in high school and was the top student in his class. Hicks joined a comedic stage play called "Show of the hands"; a portrayal of Deaf characters to promote and educate on the importance of Deaf Culture as well as for entertainment purposes. In 1994, Hicks was selected by a High School history teacher, to audition for the feature film "Mr. Holland's Opus", for the role of Cole, (age fifteen). Hicks was unable to secure the role while participating in the American Sign Language testing process to compete with another possible actor Joseph Anderson at DeafWest Theatre (DWT). In 2011, Hicks was featured in CSI: Crime Scene Investigation, which also starred Marlee Matlin, Tyrone Giordano, Anthony Natale, as well as the late Phyllis Frelich. In the same year, he was offered the opportunity to play multiple roles for the theatrical stage play "Beneath the Storm"; as Narrator, The Past of Hyde, Ancient Forest, Aisle of Angels, Back to Epic Stairway, and Night of the Stars at the Celebrity Centre International in Los Angeles, California. The following year, he auditioned for Rustic Lantern Films' first feature Indie film "Lake Windfall" which was released in 2013 that has since gone on to win six film festival awards in multiple categories. He also contributed his time to be part of the short film "This Is Normal" which also starred Russell Harvard and Michael Spady and has also won several film festival awards. Hicks was then contacted by the video relay service (VRS) company, Z to perform in two different series of commercials. Hicks has appeared on Switched at Birth portraying a Deaf Dad in two separate seasons. Since then Hicks got in for the Del Taco commercial.
